La Porte Peinte: The White Show

A few of my animals have been on show in La Porte Peinte, a gallery in Burgundy, since December last year in the The White Show. It's lovely to get a glimpse of them in this video by Gabriel Leigh and also see the gallery and the other work on show there at the moment.

Featured in Embroidery magazine

Hairy Bear has got a mention in the current edition of Embroidery magazine, in the graduate showcase section. It's great to be featured as it's a magazine I always enjoy looking at for ideas and inspiration.

Yorkshire Sculpture Park

My collection is now on sale in the exhibition shop of Yorkshire Sculpture Park, as part of the graduate showcase MADE 2011. They will be there until 26th February 2012 and hopefully some of them will find some new homes by then. YSP is also hosting an exhibition of Donna Wilson's textiles so I am looking forward to going to visit soon.

WOOL

I've been stocking up on new materials and got some lovely wool tops from World of Wool. Lots of natural colours and different breeds to try, I particularly liked the Oatmeal colour Blue Faced Leicester, and the Grey Norwegian. Also got myself some different gauge needles to experiment with. Can't wait to make some new work with them.

The Art of Childsplay

My collection is currently on display in the main gallery of New Brewery Arts, Cirencester, in an exhibition called The Art of Childsplay.

"This show investigates the work of contemporary artists and makers who create pieces which show ‘playfulness’ or have a ‘childlike’ quality. All the exhibitors are inspired by play, respond to children’s stories, refer to childhood memories or make work with children in mind. The exhibition will present a stimulating world for all to enjoy."

The other work on show includes a range of Donna Wilson's knitted creatures, and Samantha Bryan's wonderful Victorian gadgetry inspired Fairies.

Here are some photos of my work in the exhibition...

Exciting things to come!

The Bath Spa University stand had a very exciting and successful time at New Designers, London. Well done to Hettie who won the Graham and Brown Prize - amazing!

The needle-felted characters had a great time as well...one was sold, others commissioned, and some fantastic invitations to upcoming exhibitions (more news of these to come)

I have been featured in a website which is a companion website for the book Visual Research Methods in Fashion by Julia Gaimster. Some images of my drawing and finished sculptures can be found in Chapter 4 of the Image Gallery. Here is the link: Visual Research Methods in Fashion

The Show

The Bath Spa Degree Show is over now but here are some images of my space. It was exciting and really rewarding to exhibit the work that has developed over the last three years of my degree. Thanks to everyone who visited, and for all the positive and useful comments I received! The needle-felted gang are off to New Designers next...hope to see you there.

(Thanks to my Uncle for the first two of these images!)

Felt Sculptures

Here are some pics of the felt sculptures I'm working on at the moment... I've had a go at applying some ceramics to the felt. I like the plaster the best and it gives me the chance to draw and paint on to the little sculptures. Also starting to consider the presentation of them, glass containers might be the way to go!

Owl and Friends

I've also been having a try at needle felting to create my characters. I like the idea of incasing them in glass so I'm going to look in to taxidermy and play on this...

Meet Cat...

Machine embroidered and embellished on to felt

Lion in progress...

This is the beginning of my new project. The felt vessels have turned upside down! Its still a bit of a mystery what to do with him now as he is hollow at the moment. He could be filled or I might try giving him a base so it stands on its own. More characters to come...

Catch up!

I've got a little bit behind with my posting so here's a catch up of the work I made to resolve my experiments with vessels...
