I came across Jon Klassen's illustrations when I was bought the book I Want My Hat Back as a present. I absolutely love the story, it's so simple but so clever and really makes me laugh out loud! The illustrations are lovely, they have a hand-painted look but used in a very clean way, and the animals are all wonderfully characterful (the eyes give it all away!).

How he does it...

Mark Hearld

I'm a huge fan of Mark Hearld's work, I have his beautifully printed cards by Art Angels dotted everywhere in my house. The collages are fantastic, I love the colour palette he uses, and the lithographs have that quality of line that is so lovely. Here are some examples from Art Angels website and a gallery that sells his work, Godfrey & Watt.

From Godfrey & Watt Website: 'Mark Hearld was born in 1974. He studied illustration at Glasgow School of Art followed by an MA in Natural History Illustration at the Royal College of Art. His work is based on his observations of the natural world, influenced by mid twentieth century Neo-Romanticism and the gaiety of 1930s Modernism. He is inspired by British artists such as Eric Ravilious, John Piper and Edward Bawden.

Roger Duvoisin

For the next couple of weeks I am going to share some work by other people who I find inspiring and lovely

I've come across the illustrations of Roger Duvoisin on Pinterest and can't get enough of them!
He was a Mid-century Swiss illustrator who became renowned for his children's illustrations, particularly Petunia the goose, and the Happy Lion as shown below. I love the gorgeous block colours and use of line. They are charming!

New Studio Space

Finally my new desk space in our studio room is up and running. All I need now is to fit shelving above for some new pieces to make a home on! Looking forward to working alongside someone for creative inspiration…
