The Art of Childsplay

23 July - 4 September

This show investigates the work of contemporary artists and makers who create pieces which show ‘playfulness’ or have a ‘childlike’ quality. All the exhibitors are inspired by play, respond to children’s stories, refer to childhood memories or make work with children in mind. The exhibition will present a stimulating world for all to enjoy.

Discover work that explores stories, toys, dolls, characters and creatures, fairgrounds, circuses, make believe, fairies and dressing up to intrigue and delight both children and adults.

Amongst the work on show will be Katie Heeks’s gardens of delight, Samantha Bryan’s fairies, dolls by Gillian Lee Smith, Donna Wilson’s creatures, Melanie Tomlinson’s diaroma, Jennifer Collier’s paper clothes and Maddie Harris’s sound objects.

We will also be featuring the work of up-and-coming artist Caroline Brown, recently graduated from Bath Spa University, who uses mixed media and embroidery to create quirky
animal characters.

Are you ready for a playful summer?
